If you haven't joined Upromise yet, today is a great day to do so...but I'll get to that in a minute. Upromise is a cash back shopping site. Certainly, their preference is that you use it to save for you child (or other family member's) college or to use to help pay back your own student loans. But you don't have to.
I'll repeat...you can use Upromise even if you never plan to spend a penny of it on higher education costs. Like other cash back shopping site, you simply shop through Upromise and the money accrues in your account. Now if you want, you can set up a 529 savings account with them. But again, you don't have to.
Personally, I just send them a letter once a quarter and withdraw the money directly. It comes to you in the form of a check and you can use it how you like.
Their cash back rates tend to be comparable to other cash back sites but if you use their credit card, like I do, you can earn an extra money back as well.
For instance, today JC Penney is a featured retailer with them offering a whopping 10% cash back on all purchases!
Here's what you need to do to get the maximum amount back:
1. Start of by heading over to Upromise and signing up.
2. Then search for JC Penney.
3. Click on the link to head to the JC Penney site.
4. Shop away. Just remember that 10% of whatever you spend will be coming back to you.
5. But, don't forget...if you have the credit card you would also get 1% back (the reward on all purchases with the card) plus another 2% back for shopping with a Upromise retailer online.
6. Plus, you can add the coupon code THRIFTY to get $10 off any purchase of $25 or more.
Bottom line? Let's say you make a $25 purchase, get to take the $10 off, brining it to $15. Total? 13% cash back. After your cash back you would have only spent $12.75!
